The series is based around the investigations of a London Murder Investigation Team, and is closely styled after the American series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. The first series debuted on 3 May 2003, and ran for eight episodes. After a two year hiatus, a second series of four 90-minute episodes aired in 2005. The MIT abbreviation was removed from the international broadcasts to avoid confusion with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The first series was filmed with the working title Think Murder.

Connections with The Bill
The first episode of series one featured the team investigating the drive-by shooting of one of The Bill's most popular characters, Sgt. Matthew Boyden. Several members of The Bill's cast also appeared in the episode. DC Eva Sharpe (Diane Parish) joined the show for the second series, transferring from The Bill's CID team. Like The Bill, the series was filmed in the London Borough of Greenwich and locations included the Former Woolwich campus of the University of Greenwich.
Production
The first series consisted of eight one-hour episodes. Produced by Tom Cotter, the series starred Samantha Spiro, Lindsey Coulson, Richard Hope and Steven Pacey, with guest appearances from Gary Kemp and Paul Bown. A second series consisting of four ninety-minute episodes was commissioned and filmed, and although the series was shown in Australia in February 2005, it's British broadcast was delayed until July 2005. In September 2005, The Sun reported that ITV would not be commissioning another series.[1]
