Gary Kemp (born
16 October 1959 , inIslington ,London ) is an English pop artist who was theguitar player and chiefsongwriter for the 1980sSynthpop bandSpandau Ballet .His brother Martin Kemp playedbass guitar in the band. He also provided backing vocals on many of the tracks to lead singerTony Hadley .Later career
After recording Spandau Ballet's final album, Kemp and his brother became actors. He won the contempt of his fellow band members, but good reviews for his performance as Ronnie Kray in "
The Krays " (1991). Making this film was the death-knell to Spandau Ballet.He was married to actress
Sadie Frost with whom he had one son, Finlay Munro (born 1990). The couple divorced in 1997, after she left him forJude Law . Kemp is now married tocostume designer Lauren Barber with whom he now has another son Milo Wolf.He recorded a solo album called "Little Bruises" in 1995, but its lack of success has meant that he has not made another album since. He has written songs with a number of other writers for other artists, however not many of them have actually been recorded and released. Two of his songs did appear on the debut album by American soap star
Jacob Young in 2001. He then made an abortive attempt to reform Spandau Ballet in 2004. He now uses toMySpace to get his music heardHe has also written two productions with
Guy Pratt for the stage: "Bedbug" which was performed in a variety of venues during the Shell Connections Youth Drama Festival in 2004; and "A Terrible Beauty" which is based on the life ofWilliam Butler Yeats &Maude Gonne .
