Career
Jamalzadah started her music talent in 2003/2004. Jamalzadah asked for help from experienced Afghan singer, Habib Qaderi, and started to have vocal lessons from Wahid Omid. She then emerged as a singer in 2007, and appeared on Canadian Idol and nervously sang "Say It Right" by Nelly Furtado, but was rejected in audition stage.[1]
After her rejection on Canadian Idol, she released a single called "Dukhtar-E-Afghan", which became a hit. She then started to gain attention. Jamalzadah then modeled for many lifestyle magazines including Fashion week, Cosmopolitan and Asian Woman Magazine.
In March 2010, she was invited to the White House by President Barack Obama and the First Lady, where she performed her single, "Dukhtar-E-Afghan", as part of International Women's Day.
In December 2010, she had an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC's Good Morning America show.
Mozhdah recently signed a one year deal with Afghan 1TV television station to host her own talk show called "Mozhdah" where she will have musical guests on a regular basis. She currently resides in Wazir Akbar Khan in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Personal life
Jamalzadah was born in the Afghan capital city, Kabul. Her father is from Herat, and her mother from the capital. At the age of 5, Jamalzadah escaped Kabul with her parents and her brothers, Nasrin and Bashir Jamalzadah.
The family made their way to Vancouver in Canada. Jamalzadah grew up in southern Vancouver and attended John Oliver Secondary School.
Jamalzadah completed a program in Broadcast journalism at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and studied Philosophy and Political Science at the University of British Columbia.
Discography
- "Act One", Jamalzadah's first album, was released in 2009, containing about 15 Afghan songs with many composed by herself. It also had many English songs of her own version.
Since 2010, she has been releasing more singles sung in English; her own version of various singles, including: "Truth Or Dare", "My Love", "Run Away", "Fallin'" and "Better With You".
