Moonie River at NindigullyMouth confluence with the Barwon River Basin countries Australia Basin area 14,812 km² The Moonie River is a river on the western Darling Downs of Queensland, Australia. The rivers flows in a south western direction into New South Wales to the west of Mungindi and then into the Barwon River. The catchment area has no major towns and is extremely flat.[1] This is one water storage facility on the river, the Thallon Weir, with a capacity of 185 ML.[1]
The headwaters of the river are to the east of the town Tara. It flows through the towns of the Nindigully, Flinton and just to the west of Thallon. The largest tributary of the Moonie River is Teelba Creek, with Brigalow and Toombilla Creeks also flowing into the river.[1]
Both the Moonie Highway and Carnarvon Highway cross the river.
