As of 2009, Streep holds the record for the most acting Academy Award nominations received by any actor with 16; she has won twice (Best Supporting Actress for Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979 and Best Actress for Sophie's Choice in 1982). She also holds the record for the most Golden Globe Award nominations with 25, and the record for the most Golden Globe wins with seven. She is the most critically acclaimed actress of the modern era.

Meryl Streep received an Honorary César at the 2003 César Awards and a Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute in 2004.[34] In addition to her acting awards, Streep was named Woman of the Year by the Hasty Pudding Theatricals in 1980 and was the recipient of the Crystal Award from Women in Film in 1998. She was given a Gala Tribute by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in 2008.[35]
Streep has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame located at 7020 Hollywood Boulevard.
Meryl received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Yale University in 1983 - well before being recognized by Harvard and Princeton. She was pregnant at the time.
Meryl also received an Honorary Degree from Princeton University in 2009.
She was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2008.
