Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria (1804–1858)

Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria (1804–1858)

Marie Anne Franziska Theresia Josepha Medarde of Austria (Vienna 8 June 1804 - Baden bei Wien 28 December 1858) was a daughter of Franz II, Holy Roman Emperor and Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily.

She is said to have been mentally deficient, like her oldest brother Emperor Ferdinand I, and to have suffered from a hideous facial deformity. She spent almost her entire life confined to one apartment in the Hofburg palace in Vienna.

She is buried in the Imperial Crypt (Vienna). Her heart is buried in the Herzgruft in the Augustinerkirche.
