Marc Edwards (born 1980, Paris) is a Welsh and Chinese Television Presenter on China Central Television (CCTV)(中国中央电视台). He currently presents Travelogue.

Background

Marc was born in Paris to a Welsh father and a Chinese mother, and is fluent in French, Mandarin and English. He lived the first seven years of his life in Paris, before attending Radley College in Oxfordshire, England. He read modern languages at Durham University, and worked in London and Paris before moving to China.[1]

While studying for a degree in Business, Italian and French he hosted his own show on the university radio station, Purple FM.[2]

Edwards was hired in 2007 by China Central Television’s international language channel CCTV News, where he hosts their flagship travel program, Travelogue.[3]

His first feature was a 3 part series in conjunction with National Geographic’s Trends Traveler magazine. [4] Here he traveled by car along the fabled Tea and Horse Trail[5] from Lijiang in Yunnan to Lhasa in Tibet. Episode 2 of the series won the award for best documentary at the annual CCTV awards 2008.

He hosted Travelogue’s Being Beijing series and mini-series which aired throughout the Beijing Olympics in 2008 highlighting the best things to do, see and eat in the city for those attending the event.[6]

In 2009 Edwards hosted CCTV International's 1st ever travel show in Taiwan, touring the island for 3 weeks. The 5 part series was the 1st major travel program filmed between the mainland and Taiwan.[7]

In 2010 he was chosen to host Travelogue’s Shanghai Shanghai series highlighting all there is to do in the city to help the people attending the World Expo in Shanghai. In the series he also presented a 2 part comprehensive guide to all the entertainment at the event. The series aired throughout the Expo 2010 [8]

2010 also saw Edwards present the Miss World Bikini Finals for CCTV News.[9] The competition held annually in Beihai formed part of Travelogue's guide to the seaside resort.[10]

China Central Television or Chinese Central Television, commonly abbreviated as CCTV (simplified Chinese: 中国中央电视台; traditional Chinese: 中國中央電視臺; pinyin: Zhōngguó Zhōngyāng Diànshìtái) is the major state television broadcaster in mainland China. CCTV has a network of 19 channels broadcasting different programmes and is accessible to more than one billion viewers.[11] Most of its programmes are a mixture of documentary, comedy, entertainment and drama, the majority of which consists of Chinese soap operas and entertainment. CCTV News, also known as CCTV International is mainland China's only 24-hour English-language TV channel and is run by China Central Television (CCTV). CCTV-9 can be viewed through Sky Digital in the United Kingdom, on a number of cable and satellite providers in the United States of America, Europe and Asia, on the station's website, and on free-to-air satellite television. It caters to a global English-speaking audience, including overseas Chinese and English speakers in China.
