PTH 25 PTH 27

Provincial Trunk Highway 26 (PTH 26) is a short east-west highway that begins and ends at the Trans-Canada Highway. The western terminus is located at the eastern outskirts of Portage La Prairie, while the eastern terminus is three kilometers east of St. François Xavier and thirteen kilometres west of the Winnipeg city limits, which is the Perimeter Highway. PTH 26 provides access to the small community of Poplar Point.

PTH 26 serves as an alternative scenic route between Portage La Prairie and Winnipeg as it closely follows the Assiniboine River which flows south of the highway. The speed limit on this highway is 90 km/h.

Route History

PTH 26 was part of the original Highway 1 prior to 1962. In 1962, Highway 1 became part of the Trans-Canada Highway and the new highway configuration was constructed. The route was then redesignated as part of the transprovincial Highway 4, along with current Provincial Trunk Highways 9, 16, and 44. In 1970, it was renumbered to its current PTH 26 designation.
