Makerere University School of Public Health (MUSPH) is one of the schools that constitute the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS). The schools are:

• Makerere University School of Biomedical Sciences (MUSBS)
• Makerere University School of Health Sciences (MUSHS)
• Makerere University School of Medicine (MUSM)
• Makerere University School of Public Health (MUSPH)

Location

The school is located on Mulago Hill, adjacent to Mulago Hospital Complex, and the other three schools within the Makerere University College of Health Sciences. The coordinates of the school are:00 20 16N, 32 34 38E (Latitude:0.3376; Longitude:32.5772).

History

The origins of the school date back to 1957 when the Department of Preventive Medicine was established at Makerere University Medical School. In 1975, the department was elevated to Makerere Institute of Public Health and moved to a new five-story building of its own. The Institute was elevated to a full-fledged School of Public Health and made a constituent school of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences in 2007.^[2]

Undergraduate Courses

The following undergraduate courses are offered at Makerere University School of Public Health: ^[4]

• Bachelor of Environmental Health Sciences (BEHS) - A three year course offered in collaboration with Makerere University School of Biomedical Sciences.
• Diploma in Public Health Nursing (DPHN) - A one year course offered in collaboration with Makerere University School of Health Sciences.

MUSPH offers instruction in the following undergraduate programs whose qualifications are awarded by other schools within the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS):

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) - Offered by MUSM
• Bachelor of Radiography (BRad) - Offered by MUSM
• Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) - Offered by MUSBS
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) - Offered by MUSHS
• Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) - Offered by MUSHS

• Master of Public Health Nutrition (MPHN)
• Master of Health Services Research (MHSR)
• Master of Public Health (MPH) - Two years of full-time coursework and examinations.
• Master of Public Health (MPH) - Three to five years of part-time coursework, a field research project and examinations.
• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) - Three to five years of instruction, research, a field project and examinations.
