Personal life
As of 2008, Hill and his wife Sky live in San Mateo, California and have a grown daughter. Hill owns a small pool cleaning business[2] and has a teaching credential which he earned from San Francisco State University.[3]
Political career
Prior to his election as assemblymember, Hill served as a San Mateo County supervisor from 1998 to 2008 and was chair of the San Mateo County Transit District board of directors.[4]
Hill's political career started when he served as a San Mateo city councilmember from 1991 to 1998, including a term as mayor in 1994.[5]
Despite a strong showing by Millbrae Mayor Gina Papan, daughter of former assembly district representative Lou Papan, and Richard Holober, President of the San Mateo County Community College Board and consumer advocate, Hill won the Democratic primary for California's 19th State Assembly district in June 2008. The primary often tantamount to election for the highly Democratic district.
In the November 2008 general election, Hill earned 73 percent of the vote against Republican Catherine Brinkman's 23 percent to officially be elected to the state assembly.[6] Hill succeeded South San Francisco Democratic member Gene Mullin, who had been termed-out of office.
