Craigville was a logging village in section 36 of T. 63N, R 26W in Koochiching County, Minnesota, north of the small city of Effie.
History
Craigville was platted in 1924 by James Reid. It was named for an unknown logging foreman named Craig. Craigville was frequented by as many as 5,000 lumberjacks seasonally, and had a post office from 1915 until 1952. In addition to numerous hotels and saloons, Craigville also had a station of the Minneapolis and Rainy River Railway. [1]
One of the photos used in the opening montage for the television series Cheers was taken in Craigville in 1937, by Russell Lee of the Farm Security Administration.[2]
