History

By the 16th century, Spanish conquistadors began to subdue and colonize the region of present-day Chile, and the territory became a colony from 1540 to 1810, when it gained independence from Spain.

On 12 October 1940, the Spanish Government announced it was resuming diplomatic relations with Chile after relations were suspended on 16 July following a diplomatic dispute. [1]

Agreements

In 2008, the two countries signed a wind energy pact worth over USD 1 billion that would establish Latin America's largest wind farm. [2]
