The airline was established in
1972 . In October2004 Universal Express acquired the majority stake (80%) in Alpine Air Express, the other 20% being publicly held. It originally operated scheduled passenger and cargo services, aircraft maintenance and a flight school, but now concentrates on cargo services. It also ownedAlpine Air Express Chile , an unsuccessful attempt of entering that South American country's freight market that ended in 2005, its three Beech 1900C were returned to the US, while a passenger Beech 99A was abandoned at Puerto Aysén after an accident The airframe was acquired by Aerocord of Chile and moved to Puerto Montt in May 2008 for spares use.Destinations

January 2008-- An alpine air Raytheon Beech 99 crashed into the Pacific Ocean on a cargo flight between Honolulu Intl Airport and Lihue Intl in Hawaii. This crash claimed only one life, the pilot of the aircraft.
