It is served by the East Japan Railway Company's Yokohama Line, and is 13.5 kilometers from the terminus of the Yokohama Line at Higashi-Kanagawa Station, and is also the terminus of the Yokohama Municipal Subway’s Green Line.

History
Nakayama Station was opened on September 23, 1908 as a station on the privately-held Yokohama Railway Company. The line was acquired by the Japanese government in 1910, and merged into the Japanese Government Railways system (the predecessor to the JNR from October 1. 1917. All freight operations were suspended from 1960. A new station building was completed in 1985. With the privatization of the JNR on April 1, 1987, the station came under the operational control of JR East. It became an interchange station with the Green Line on March 30, 2008.

JR Nakayama Station has a single side platform and an island platform serving three elevated tracks, although track 2 is not in normal use. The Yokohama Green Line subway station has a single island platform serving two underground tracks.
