An interchange station (
British English ) or transfer station (American English ) is atrain station for more than onerailway route in apublic transport system, and allowspassenger s to change from one route to another. Transfer may occur within the same mode, or between rail modes, or tobus es. Such stations usually have more platforms than single route stations. They may be required to pay extrafare for the interchange if they leave apaid area . Somerapid transit systems, however, have a fare system which allows commuters to freely change routes in the station.Some interchange stations offer only transfer between routes and do not have the ability for passengers to enter or exit the network, for instance Cornbrook on the
