Tuckahoe village is located at coor dms|40|57|11|N|73|49|25|W|city (40.953110, -73.823609)GR|1, which is the lower, central section of Westchester County. Tuckahoe is bordered by the village of Bronxville to its South, the town of Eastchester to its North and East, and by the Crestwood section of Yonkers to its West. Easily accessible roadways include the
Bronx River Parkway , White Plains Road (Route 22), theMajor Deagan Expressway , theHutchinson River Parkway and the Cross County Expressway.According to the
United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km²), all of it land.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 6,211 people, 2,627 households, and 1,626 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 10,188.8 people per square mile (3,931.3/km²). There were 2,729 housing units at an average density of 4,476.8/sq mi (1,727.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 73.98% White, 10.11% African American, 0.10% Native American, 9.76% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.48% from other races, and 2.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.84% of the population.There were 2,627 households out of which 30.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.1% were non-families. 33.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the village the population was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 36.7% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $60,744, and the median income for a family was $78,188. Males had a median income of $56,217 versus $41,077 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $31,819. About 5.7% of families and 7.2% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 5.6% of those under age 18 and 9.1% of those age 65 or over.Tuckahoe Marble
In 1818, after high-quality white marble was found, the Tuckahoe Marble Quarry opened and soon became a major producer of marble for the world. This marble was used in many famous projects, including the
New York City Hall , the Washington Memorial Arch atWashington Square Park, New York , the General Post Office in Washington, DC, St. Patrick's Cathedral and the mainNew York City Public Library , and even the bottom third of theWashington Monument in Washington, DC. Tuckahoe marble was discovered near the Bronx River, and is part of the Inwood Formation. It was used for gravestone markers in many cemeteries in the 19th century and the early 20th century until the quarry closed in 1930.Tuckahoe Renaissance
Over the past decade or so, Tuckahoe has enjoyed an influx of investor capital, which has resulted in the redevelopment of many of its former commercial and industrial areas. Several previous and current projects include: the conversion of a former Revlon factory to the high-end Rivervue Apartment Complex (located on the corner of Lake and Main Street), the new construction of residential, retail and medical office properties along the Main Street cooridor, the shuttering of two gas stations, the updated and refurbished Tuckahoe train station (which includes a recently opened Starbucks), and the beautifully restored town hall which lives on as the Generoso Pope Foundation. Additional residential construction is occurring at the former site of Westcon on Main Street, and additional construction/redevelopment is expected in the downtown section of Crestwood as wellFact|date=April 2008.

Tuckahoe is home to Immaculate Conception Church (53 Winter Hill Road) and Church of the Assumption (100 Pleasant Avenue), both of which are Roman Catholic, and can be seen below.Tuckahoe also houses two African-American churches:African Methodist Episcopal, 6 Van Duzen Place and Shiloh Baptist Church 15 Marbledale Road

There is a
time capsule entoumbed in the World War II Monument at the foot of Winterhill Road. As part of an Eagle Scout project a time capsule from 1932 was removed and preserved and a new capsule was created by gathering objects from all around the village. The capsule was sealed and presented to the mayor at a ceremony on November 11, 2002 and will be opened in 50 years, on November 11, 2052.References
