customcommons=Peel Regional Road 136, formerly Highway 136 is a former provincial highway of
Ontario , located in theRegional Municipality of Peel, Ontario , near Orangeville. The road's northern terminus is Broadway Street (Formerly Highway 9), just west of the intersection withHurontario Street (Highway 10). Its southern terminus is Charleston Sideroad (Formerly Highway 24).While the highway dates back to 1962 as Highway 136, the road is in reality, a former alignment of Highway 24, which was re-routed along former Highway 51 towards Highway 10. The road was first built in 1937-1938, when Highway 24 was extended north from Guelph to Collingwood via Orangeville. Highway 136 was fully paved by
1966 , with the first half (Cataract to Alton) being paved first, then from Alton to Orangeville. This road was one of the last Kings Highways to be fully paved.Highway 136's purpose as a provincial highway was to provide a "short-cut" from Highway 24 to Orangeville without having to drive along Highway 10. Since this saves only a few kilometers from one's trip, it was not a significant highway, and was downloaded to the Regional Municipality of Peel. It bears no relation to the second incarnation of Highway 51, which lasted from 1970 to 1997 near
Rondeau Provincial Park in Chatham-Kent. The road's current designation is Peel Regional Road 136.The road is also known as John Street, Townline Road, and Main Street.
