As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 7,799 people, 2,342 households, and 2,032 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,701.3 people per square mile (657.5/km²). There were 2,362 housing units at an average density of 515.2/sq mi (199.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 86.30% White, 3.50% African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.53% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.00% from other races, and 1.36% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.26% of the population.There were 2,342 households out of which 41.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.0% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.2% were non-families. 11.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.20 and the average family size was 3.47.
In the village the population was spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.0 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $87,678, and the median income for a family was $97,960. Males had a median income of $67,663 versus $36,550 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $29,788. About 1.6% of families and 3.3% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 2.2% of those under age 18 and 5.9% of those age 65 or over.History
According to Cole's "History of Rockland County", published in 1884, Tallman was named for Tunis Tallman, who opened a store there in 1836. Tunis was a direct descendant of Rockland's oldest family.
