The Mpi are an ethnic group of Thailand.

Geographic Distribution

There are about 1,500 Mpi in the Nan and Phrae Provinces of Thailand. ^[1]

Origin

The Mpi came to Laos during the 18th century from the Yunnan Province of China.^{[citation needed]} They migrated shortly afterwards to Thailand.^[2] They are of Lolo descent.

Language

Approximately 900 of the Mpi still speak their Mpi language. Nearly all of the Mpi speak fluent Northern Thai.^{[citation needed]}
