Nation Radio took over the Ofcom broadcasting licence held by Xfm South Wales when GCap Media sold the station to Town and Country Broadcasting for an unspecified fee on 30 May 2008. After 2 weeks of non-stop music, Nation Radio fully launched on 16 June 2008. Jason Bryant , chief executive of Town & Country Broadcasting said "We are very confident about making this into a big station. This is not a marginal station – this is going to be mainstream."
The station plays a mix of new and classic guitar led music.
Nation's daytime schedule includes Chris Blumer at Breakfast, Mark Franklin from 11-3 and Ben Evans between 3 and 7.
Weekend shows are headed up by Michelle Owen between 10 and 2 Saturday and Sunday, with a second chance to hear the 'Best of the Breakfast Show' throughout Sunday afternoon before Owen Davies brings you Airplay from 7 on Sundays; a showcase of brand new and local talent from South Wales including interviews and sessions with emerging and established bands and artists.
The Anthems features classic indie songs and the best music around today on Friday and Saturday evenings, setting you up for your weekend.

In September 2011 Kids in Glass Houses played an exclusive album launch show for the station on the eve of the release of their fourth album In Gold Blood, with the band 'taking over' evenings on the station in the week running up to the show. 100 Nation Radio listeners got the chance to attend an exclusive soundcheck party before the sold out event.
In October 2011 Nation Radio also gave away the opportunity for a fan of singer songwriter Ben Howard to surf with him on the West Wales leg of his sold-out UK tour. A video documenting the experience is available at facebook.com/nationradio
