Real Radio Wales is an independent local radio that broadcasts on FM across South and West Wales. It is also available on DAB via the MXR Severn Estuary multiplex and on Sky Digital channel 0146.

History

Based near the M4 in Northwest Cardiff, it was the first radio station within the GMG Radio's Real Radio brand. The station was launched in October 2000 with an introduction from Tom Jones, followed by John Myers introducing the song "A Star is Born". The format is very similar to the Century Network, which Myers had established in the mid-1990s.

Programming

Real Radio is a music and speech station, playing classic and modern tunes for South Wales. They play a variety of songs from the 60s to some new music from the chart. Real air mostly songs for adults, as well as supporting new tunes, like Album of the week.

The station's evening and overnight news bulletins are produced in Manchester from 105.4 Century FM.
