Geography

Residents of the area use 'Pasadena' to refer to a larger area than the official CDP, typically anything in the 21122 ZIP code or on the Pasadena Pennisulk. This makes other CDP's, including Green Haven, Armiger, Riviera Beach, Orchard Beach; and occasionally Gibson Island areas within Pasadena. Pasadena is located in Anne Arundel County in Central Maryland, on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay.

Also, Pasadena contains the largest plot of undeveloped land between Baltimore and Annapolis. Over half of the undeveloped land is currently held in trust by the county, the other half is owned by a private owner since the mid 1930s

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 In 2000, there were 12,093 people, 4,339 households, and 3,336 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,632.0 people per square mile (630.1/km²). There were 4,534 housing units at an average density of 611.9/sq mi (236.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 90.05% White, 6.81% African American, 0.28% Native American, 1.47% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.33% of the population.

There were 4,339 households out of which 37.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.5% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% were non-families. 18.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.18.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.5 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $68,205, and the median income for a family was $81,052. Males had a median income of $43,949 versus $35,071 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $26,626. About 3.2% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.0% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over.
