Mountain States League

The Mountain States League was a minor league baseball league which operated as a class D league in 1911 and 1912. It was based in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. Prior to that, it had been known as the Virginia Valley League.

In 1911 Point Pleasant-Gallipolis moved to Middleport-Pomeroy on July 1. The season ended September 12 when an investigation was conducted concerning two cases of improper conduct to prevent Middleport-Pomeroy from winning the second half title. In 1912, Middleport-Pomeroy moved to Montgomery on June 16, then disbanded on June 29. Charleston disbanded July 1. Ashland-Catlettsburg and Huntington disbanded July 8, ending the season and the league.

Another circuit using the Mountain States League name ran from 1948 to 1954. This league was also a class D league until 1953, before spending one final season as a class C league in 1954. Harlan, Kentucky & Morristown, Tennessee were represented for the full seven year run. In 1954, Morristown disbanded on May 15, Maryville-Alcoa moved to Morristown on June 19, then disbanded on July 7, Lexington also disbanded on July 7, and finally, the league disbanded on July 20.
