Northern Baptist Theological Seminary

Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (often shortened to Northern Seminary) is a seminary located in Lombard, Illinois, USA, near Chicago. It was founded in 1913 by the Second Baptist Church of Chicago to prepare students for church leadership, and it continues to represent a theologically conservative alternative within its association with the American Baptist Churches in the USA (historically the Northern Baptist convention).^[1]

NBTS is an evangelical Christian educational institution, affirming the authority of Scripture and emphasizing the importance of fulfilling the mission set forth by Jesus of going forth and spreading the Gospel. It holds full accreditation from North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. In 2004 NBTS' then-president Charles Moore joined many other Protestant evangelicals in endorsing Roman Catholic Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ.^[2]

In September of 2008, Northern Seminary elected its 10th President, Rev. Dr. Alistair Brown. Prior to serving as President of Northern Seminary, Dr. Brown served as General Director of the Baptist Missionary Society in the UK. Northern has four campus in Illinois - Lombard (20 miles west of Chicago's Loop), Elgin, Rockford, and Chicago (Lawndale neighborhood). Its academic programs include masters and doctoral degrees, graduate certificates, and non-credit ministry diplomas.
