(Schlegel & Müller, 1844 in Temminck)Malayemys subtrijuga is a species of turtle in the Geoemydidae family. It was monotypic within the genus Malayemys until Brophy (2004, 2005)[1] revalidated (based on morphology) Malayemys macrocephala (Gray, 1859) long time considered to be a synonym of M. subtrijuga.
- Malayemys subtrijuga (Mekong snail-eating turtle) is found in the Mekong Basin of Cambodia, Laos, southern Vietnam and eastern Thailand
- Malayemys macrocephala (Malayan snail-eating turtle) is found in central and southeastern Thailand, southeastern Cambodia, Peninsular Thailand and Malay Peninsular
The occurrence of the species in Indonesia is regarded by Brophy (2005) to be allochtonous i.e. non native (Sumatra) or extinct (Java)
Both species are threatened by habitat loss and overhunting.
