Schweigger, 1812[1]Species Chelydra is one of the two extant genera of the Chelydridae family of turtles, the other being Macrochelys.[1]

The genus Chelydra has three species.[1]
- Chelydra acutirostris Peters, 1962 – South American snapping turtle
- Chelydra rossignonii (Bocourt, 1868) – Central American snapping turtle
- Chelydra serpentina (Linnaeus, 1758) – Common snapping turtle
