(Laurenti, 1768)The Common Midwife Toad (Alytes obstetricans) is a species of frog in the Discoglossidae family. It is found in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (although, in the latter, only as an introduction).
Its natural habitats are temperate forests, subtropical or tropical dry forests, temperate shrubland, rivers, freshwater lakes, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marches, temperate desert, arable land, pastureland, and urban areas. It is threatened by habitat loss.
