census-designated place and an unincorporated community in Riverside County,California ,United States . As of the 2000 census, the population was 29,180. The community's name refers to early European settlerLouis Robidoux . Robidoux was a naturalized Mexican citizen who had served asAlcalde of Santa Fe. He was an American by birth, descended from a Louisiana family of Acadian origin.Like much of the fast-growing Inland Empire region, Rubidoux is rapidly changing from a rural area of quarries and dairy farms to an exurb of Los Angeles. Geography
Rubidoux is located at coor dms|33|59|45|N|117|25|6|W|city (33.995814, -117.418266)GR|1. According to the
United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 9.3 square miles (24.0 km²), of which, 9.2 square miles (23.7 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (1.19%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 29,180 people, 7,991 households, and 6,464 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 3,186.5 people per square mile (1,230.0/km²). There were 8,497 housing units at an average density of 927.9/sq mi (358.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 51.77% White, 7.32% African American, 1.43% Native American, 2.24% Asian, 0.29% Pacific Islander, 32.02% from other races, and 4.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 54.29% of the population.There were 7,991 households out of which 48.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% were married couples living together, 16.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.1% were non-families. 14.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.60 and the average family size was 3.94.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 36.0% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 17.3% from 45 to 64, and 6.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $38,731, and the median income for a family was $40,019. Males had a median income of $32,252 versus $23,287 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $13,912. About 17.2% of families and 20.8% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 28.4% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.Politics
