Rubidoux High School is a four-year public high school in Riverside, California as part of the Jurupa Unified School District, opened in 1962. It is one of four high schools in the district, the others being Jurupa Valley High School, Patriot High School, and Nueva Vista High School, a continuation school.

As of the 2007-08 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,325 students and 53.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 24.8. History

It opened its doors in 1962 as the first high school in the "West Riverside" area. The mascot is the falcon. The football field and stadium was named Edward E. Hawkins Stadium after a prominent community member and former superintendent of the school district. Throughout its first two decades in existence it was exceptional in football and basketball. In recent years, Rubidoux has been dominant in cross country, soccer, and wrestling. Rubidoux High School has invested several million dollars into refurbishing the campus and athletic facilities. Along with updating every single classroom with high tech instructional equipment and student computers, Rubidoux is now the only high school in Jurupa Unified with wireless technology throughout the campus including outdoors and in the brand new state-of-the-art 7.5 million dollar athletic stadium, fitness, and weight rooms.

Academic struggles

Several years ago, Rubidoux High School went through the program improvement process. It is now out of SAIT and has continually improved its academic programs and student achievement on California state assessments. Riverside Community College and Rubidoux High School have established a partnership to create RECHS ( Rubidoux Early College High School ). This school-within-a-school small learning environment has been highly successful with a virtual API score approximately 100 points higher than other high schools in the district. Teachers at Rubidoux are highly qualified and are being trained in project-based and problem-based targeted teaching and learning.

Crime and gang violence

With the recent positive changes to school grounds, athletic facilities, administration, faculty, and staff, Rubidoux has become the Jurupa Unified high school with the least number of gang problems. The dress and conduct code is strictly and consistently enforced. With the continuing success of the Early College High School on campus, Rubidoux students have developed more focused and motivated attitudes. Gang activity and expulsions in the 2007-2008 school year are at an all time low with less than 50 compared to hundreds in the 2005 school year.
