Breţcu (Latin: Augustia, Hungarian: Bereck, Hungarian pronunciation: [’bɛrɛtsk] ) is a commune in Covasna County, Transylvania, Romania composed of three villages:

• Breţcu
• Mărtănuş / Kézdimartonos
• Oituz / Ojtoztelep

The Roman settlement of Augustia and the Roman castrum is located on the east side of the settlement.

Demographics

According to the 2002 census, the commune has a population of 3,908 of which 74.16% or 2,898 are Székely Hungarians.^{[citation needed]}

Personalities

Áron Gábor, hero of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 was born here in 1814.
