Székely Hungarian majority. According to the2002 Census it has a population of 5,489 of which 49.7% or 2,728 are Hungarian.Romanians account for 49.59% (2,722) of the population. It is the birthplace ofEcaterina Szabo , gold medalist gymnast at the1984 Olympics .
