It is located at 28 km (17 mi) from Timişoara. It administers four villages: Cebza, Macedonia, Obad and Petroman.
According 2002 census it had a population of 7285 inhabitants. It received the status of town in 2004. At the same time, its villages of Gad and Ghilad were split off to form Ghilad Commune.
