The Shire of Jerramungup is a relatively new Local Government Area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, about convert|180|km|mi|0 northeast of Albany and about convert|440|km|mi|0 southeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of convert|6507|km2|sqmi|0, and its seat of government is the town of Jerramungup.

The Fitzgerald River National Park, which is within the Shire, covers an area of convert|329039|ha|sqmi|0, making it one of the largest national parks in Australia. The park is one of the most diverse botanical regions in the world, containing 20% of Western Australia's described plant species - more than 1,800 in total.

History

The Jerramungup Road Board was established on 1 July 1982, on land previously managed by the Shire of Gnowangerup. [WA Electoral Commission, "Municipality Boundary Amendments Register" (release 2.0), 31 May 2003.]
