O'Neill has represented the Torrent electoral area on Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council since 2005.[5]
On the 16th of May 2011 O'Neill was appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Stormont Executive.
Previously, in the Northern Ireland Assembly, O'Neill was the Deputy Chair of the Health Committee[1] and she has spoken on issues such as rural school closures, which she opposed.[6]
