Boylston Station is a MBTA station on the Green Line, located on the southeast end of the Boston Common at the intersection of Boylston and
Tremont Street s.This station was originally constructed in
1897 , making it one of the two oldest subway stations in theUnited States , along with Park Street. Of the two, it is the less changed from its original appearance.Historic Boston PCC trolleys are also kept on display in the station. It is doubted that they are in operable condition. The trolleys are on a set of outer tracks leading to a southward tunnel originally heading for the
Pleasant Street Incline , with long-discontinued service through to South Boston via Broadway. Some of the proposals for completing Phase III of theSilver Line involve reopening portions of the tunnel for direct connections to the Boylston Green Line station.H. P. Lovecraft 's story, "Pickman's Model," mentions a fictional painting in which monsters "were clambering up from some unknown catacomb through a crack in the floor of the Boylston Street subway and attacking a crowd of people on the platform."During the summer of
2006 , theMBTA began installing brighter lighting at Bolyston Station, taking away from the old dim look.Attractions
