Mohammed Irfan (Guantanamo detainee 1006)

Mohammed Irfan is a citizen of Pakistan who was held in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba.^[1] His Guantanamo Internment Serial Number was 1006. The US Department of Defense reports he was born on December 12, 1982 in Punjab, Pakistan. Pakistan's Daily Times reports he is from RY Khan [sic], Pakistan.^[2]

Release

Both men named Mohammed Irfan were repatriated to Pakistan in the fall of 2004, and released from Pakistani custody on June 28, 2005.^[2] The two men were released from Pakistani custody along with fifteen other men. Pakistan's Daily Times reports that Punjab chief minister’s adviser on religious affairs, Maulana Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, said local authorities wanted to investigate whether the men had been brainwashed and were still involved in any terrorist activity. On November 25, 2009, the Department of Defense published a list of the dates detainees were transferred from Guantanamo.^[3] According to that list Mohammed Irfan was repatriated on 17 September 2004.

There is no record that either man had his enemy combatant status reviewed by a Combatant Status Review Tribunal.^[4]
