county located in theU.S. state ofUtah , comprising theCache Valley , up to theIdaho border, and the surrounding mountains. TheBear River Mountains , the northernmost extension of theWasatch Range , which reach as high as 10,000 feet, cover the eastern half of the county. The Bear River flows through Cache Valley. Wellsville was the first settlement made by caucasians in the county, settled byPeter Maughan in 1853. According to the 2000 census the population was 91,391, a 30% increase over the 1990 population of 70,183. In 2006 the population was estimated to have reached 106,399. It is included in theLogan, Utah -Idaho (partial) Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named for the fur stashes made by many of the Rocky Mountain Fur Companytrapper s. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,173
square mile s (3,038km² ), of which, 1,165 square miles (3,016 km²) of it is land and 9 square miles (22 km²) of it (0.73%) is water.On the western edge of the county lies the
Wellsville Mountains and on the eastern edge lie theBear River Mountains , both northern branches of theWasatch Range . A canyon carves its way through the Wellsville Mountains. Up this canyon climb U.S. Routes 89 and 91 together. In downtown Logan the highways split, with US-91 heading north intoIdaho and US-89 heading east and northeast intoLogan Canyon . Taking up the land between the Wellsville and Bear River Mountains isCache Valley , a relatively flat valley traversed by the Bear River and dotted with small farm towns in the west and the larger, more urban, and faster-growing ares in the east, along the benches of the Bear River Mountains. The county climbs to an elevation of 9,980 ft (3,042 m) atNaomi Peak in the Bear River Mountains.Adjacent counties

As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 91,391 people, 27,543 households, and 21,015 families residing in the county. Thepopulation density was 78 people per square mile (30/km²). There were 29,035 housing units at an average density of 25 per square mile (10/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 92.23% White, 0.38% Black or African American, 0.58% Native American, 1.98% Asian, 0.20% Pacific Islander, 3.31% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. 6.33% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 27,543 households out of which 43.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.4% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 14.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.24 and the average family size was 3.59.
In the county, the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 22.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 13.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 24 years. For every 100 females there were 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $39,730, and the median income for a family was $44,453. Males had a median income of $32,397 versus $21,079 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $15,094. About 8.0% of families and 13.5% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 9.8% of those under age 18 and 6.2% of those age 65 or over.Cities and towns
