It launched in February 2003 and is operated by NOW Digital, who are owned by Arqiva after being sold by Global Radio.
The Radio Authority received two applications for the DAB licence on the closing date of February 12 2002 from Capital Radio Digital and Solent Digital Radio (owned by EMAP). On May 10 2002, the licence was awarded to Capital Radio Digital. It broadcasts on block 11C. It started being known as Capital Hants under Capital, until changing to NOW South Hampshire under GCap Media/Global Radio.
Transmitters
The main signal comes from the Chillerton Down transmitter on the Isle of Wight. Other transmitters are Crabwood Farm, just west of Winchester next to the Royal Winchester Golf Club; Fort Southwick, just north of the M27 between Portchester and Paulsgrove on Portsdown Hill; The Trundle, just south-east of West Dean in West Sussex next to Goodwood Racecourse on St Roche's Hill; and Toot Hill, just north-west of the Rownhams services on the M27.
