The DAB licence was advertised by Ofcom on February 7, 2007. At the close on May 9, 2007, the regulator had received two applications. One by MuxCo (Wrexham & Cheshire), the other from Now Digital, a wholly owned subsidiary of GCap Media PLC (at the time). On September 6, 2007, it was announced that MuxCo (Wrexham & Cheshire) had won the licence.

Only three transmitters are confirmed as carrying the platform initially; Moel-Y-Parc, Wrexham & St. John's Beacon. As required, the two BBC regional service have to be carried on this platform.
