The airline was established as
Japan Domestic Airlines (JDA) on15 April 1964 through the merger of three feeder airlines:Nitto Airlines (founded4 July 1952 ),Fuji Airlines (founded13 September 1952 ) and North Japan Airlines (founded30 June 1953 ). On15 May 1971 , JDA andToa Airways (founded30 November 1953 )merged to becomeToa Domestic Airlines , which in turn changed its name toJapan Air System on1 April 1988 . In2004 the airline then merged with Japan Airlines and changed its name to Japan Airlines Domestic. JDA had 4,362 employees and owned shareholdings in the following airlines:Japan Air Commuter (60%),Hokkaido Air System (51%) andAmakusa Airlines (2%). It also had an alliance withHainan Airlines .Destinations
