  • South Africa2006 Cape Town truck-train collision – 27 people are killed when a Metrorail train traveling at Faure near Somerset West, just outside Cape Town, South Africa, collides with a truck that had stalled on a barrierless level crossing. The truck, where all the fatalities were concentrated, was carrying at least thirty-three workers from a local vineyard.[4]

  • CanadaCanadian National Railway (CN) extends the employment contract of E. Hunter Harrison, the railway's current CEO, for one year setting the new contract expiration date as December 31, 2009. His term as CN's CEO began on January 1, 2003.[5]
