Darling is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Malvern East, on the Glen Waverley railway line. It is in the Metcard Zones 1+2 overlap and is classed as a Premium Station, upgraded from unmanned status in 2008.
Facilities
Darling station is located between Clynden Avenue and the Monash Freeway, with station access from Clynden Avenue.
The station consists of two side platforms: Platform 1 (citybound) has a large brick building with an enclosed waiting room, indoor ticket office and toilets, while platform 2 (Glen Waverley bound) has a smaller brick building. A large Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 2. A footbridge, signal box and a crossover are all situated at the UP direction of the station.
History
Darling station opened on March 24 1890. The line though the station was originally built to link Burnley station to the Outer Circle line and on to Oakleigh. The outer part of the line beyond Darling closed on December 9 1895, [cite book
