30 Rock, a situation comedy television series, premiered on October 11, 2006, in the United States on NBC.[1] Created by Tina Fey, the series follows the lives of the head writer of TGS with Tracy Jordan (TGS), Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), the other staff members of TGS and their network executive, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin). The series began its first season on October 11, 2006,[1] and concluded on April 26, 2007.[2] The second season debuted on October 4, 2007,[3] with a hiatus occurring after the tenth episode due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike.[4] The season resumed on April 10, 2008, and the fifth post-strike episode aired as the season finale on May 8, 2008.[5][6][7] The third season premiered on October 30, 2008,[8][9] and it ended on May 14, 2009.[10] The fourth season premiered on October 15, 2009,[11] and ended on May 20, 2010. The fifth season premiered on September 23, 2010,[12] and ended on May 5, 2011. On November 15, 2010, it was renewed for a sixth season[13], which will premiere on January 12, 2012.
As of May 5, 2011[update], 103 original episodes of the show have aired.
The first season has been released to Region 1 DVD by NBC Universal in the form of a season box set,[14] and a second version in which the season is split into two volumes.[15][16] The second season was released to Region 1 DVD on October 7, 2008.[17] NBC Universal also released seasons one and two to Region 2 and Region 4 DVD.[18][19]
Many episodes are named after lines in them ("Jackie Jormp-Jomp", "Emanuelle Goes to Dinosaur Land") that have little relation to their plot.

30 Rock was renewed for a sixth season by NBC on November 15, 2010.[92] The season will begin airing mid-season to accommodate Tina Fey's pregnancy.[93] On November 14, 2011, NBC announced that 30 Rock will return on January 12, 2012, at the new time of 8:00pm.
This season is expected to be Alec Baldwin's last, as he has announced he will be retiring from acting after the season's conclusion.[94] Baldwin has said he hopes the series will continue without him.[95]
