(2005)"Chap Stick, Chapped Lips, and Things Like Chemistry" is a song by the Christian rock band Relient K. It was released on their 2003 album, Two Lefts Don't Make a Right...but Three Do. The song is primarily about cell phones, theme parks, and friends, but lead singer Matt Thiessen has also said that the song is about the sunshine.[citation needed] Whether the band intended it this way or not, these many subjects that the song covers only adds to the variety of objects in the lengthy title. The song is consistently still played at shows, though some thought it possibly may not be played after its recent absence in Fall 2007 and early 2008. This was not the case, as the song found its way back into the band's set in Spring 2008. This is not uncommon, as other songs have been dropped and readded after certain tours or Festivals. The song was commonly played near the end of the set after Two Lefts first came out, and then near the beginning of the set from the release of Mmhmm in late 2004 to late 2007/early 2008. As of Fall 2008, the band has been playing the song roughly in the middle of their set. The song was played for some shows on The Uncle Fest Tour and The Winter Wonder Slam Tour in Fall 2008. It was used as the opening song in some Spring 2009 shows.
Music video
A music video was released for this song at the same time that the album it was on was released. It is the band's third music video. The music video shows the band volunteering at a nursing home. They play their song for the old folks, in addition to assisting them (including one instance where Theissen must perform CPR on an unconscious man). By the end of the video, the band has the place moshing, and they have to escape before they get lost in the crowd. As the band runs down the stairs, the old folks throw the band's instruments all over the room. As an added joke, when the band is running away at the end, drummer Dave Douglas trips and falls, and then he quickly gets back up and keeps going. This short joke at the end of the video has become a fan favorite. This was the final Relient K music video with bassist Brian Pittman. The song is featured on the album Drake & Josh (soundtrack) as the 2nd song on the CD.
