Commonwealth Fencing Championships

The Commonwealth Fencing Championships is one of the older sport-specific sporting events held in the Commonwealth of Nations, following the demise of fencing as an event in the Commonwealth Games. The first championships were held in 1974 and they have been held in the same cycle as Commonwealth Games meets ever since.

The first Commonwealth Fencing Championships were held in Ottawa, Canada in 1974.

Glasgow 1978

The second Commonwealth Fencing Championships were held in Glasgow, Scotland in 1978.

Barnstaple 1982

The third Commonwealth Fencing Championships were held in Barnstaple, Devon, England in 1982.

Cardiff 1986

Cardiff, Wales was venue for the fourth Championships in 1986.

Manchester 1990

The fifth Championships were held in Manchester, Lancashire, England in 1990.

Whistler 1994

Whistler, British Columbia, Canada was the venue for sixth Championships held in 1994.

Shah Alam 1998

Shah Alam, Malaysia was the venue for the seventh Championships held in 1998.

Newcastle 2002

In 2002 the Championships were held in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

Belfast 2006

The ninth Commonwealth Fencing Championships were held in Belfast from 20 September to 26 September 2006. This followed the first Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships, which were held in Chennai, India from 24 January to 29 January 2006.

Melbourne 2010

The tenth Commonwealth Fencing Championships were held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia from 30 September to 5 October 2010. This was the first such event to be held in conjunction with the Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships.
