The character was portrayed by first by actress Allana Ellis in 1989, then actor Lewis Devaney from 1990 to 1998 and by Brendan McKensy from 1998 until 2001. He made subsequent guest appearances in 2004 and 2005.
Character
Duncan was born in the 1989 season of the show; however, he did not become a central character until 1998, when he was hospitalised after a fall. From then on, he began causing trouble for Alf and Ailsa. In 1999, he and Ailsa were in a car accident and Ailsa almost died. Duncan blamed himself for the accident, as he had reached down to grab a cassette which distracted his mother while driving.
Ailsa died of a heart attack in the Diner in late 2000, which Duncan and Alf witnessed. Alf and Duncan became even more distant as a result. As he entered his mid-teens he became even more of a terror. Alf struggled being a single parent to him. Eventually, it became too much for Alf to handle, so Duncan was sent to live with his aunt Morag in the city.
He returned for a visit in 2004, at which point he was involved with drugs. One night, he and Jade Sutherland went for a joyride and drove off a cliff, paralyzing Seb, Don Fisher's grandson. He then went to live in New York with his half-sister Roo.
He returned again in July 2005 for Alf's 60th birthday party where he attempted to make amends with his father and Don Fisher who was also there.
It was revealed in April 2009 that he was getting married in New York, with his father Alf Stewart leaving Summer Bay for a week to attend the Wedding.
