State Route 25 is a long and relatively rural state highway in the U.S. state of Alabama. From US-78 (SR-4) in Leeds northeast to the Georgia state line, SR-25 is the unsigned partner route of U.S. Highway 411. The southern terminus of SR-25 is at the junction with State Route 5 near Pine Hill in Wilcox County, and the northern terminus is at the Georgia state line in Cherokee County, approximately 20 miles east of Centre.

Route description

For the first 50 miles of its route, SR-25 travels in a north/south direction. The route initially travels through rural areas of west central Alabama, connecting numerous small towns in the Black Belt region of the state. From Greensboro to its terminus, the orientation of SR-25 is in a general northeasterly/southwesterly direction. As the route begins its northeastward trajectory, it continues passing through rural areas and small towns, skirting the southern area of the Birmingham metropolitan area in Shelby County.

Double Oak Mountain

SR-25 traverses one of the higher peaks in the region, Double Oak Mountain over a roadbed that was completed and opened in 1921. There is also a railroad line that runs parallel to SR-25 between Vincent, Alabama and Leeds, Alabama that tunnels thru Double Oak Mountain beneath the roadway. The 19 mile stretch of SR-25 between Vincent, Alabama and Leeds, Alabama is popular with motorcyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts and the road is off limits to heavy trucks except for local deliveries due to a large number of sharp curves, blind entrances and exits, and a narrow, elevated roadway. The small communities of Vandiver, Sterrett, Calcis, and Dunnavant straddle SR-25 in this area. The exclusive and private Shoal Creek Country Club, home of the 1984 and 1990 PGA Golf Championship is located on Shelby County Route 41 not far from its intersection with SR-25.
