Video Hits Australia Top 100 Video Clips

"Video Hits", the Australian music video program, celebrated twenty years on air in 2006. To celebrate this feat, a poll was conducted by internet and SMS voting to find the Top 100 music videos of the past twenty years. The Top 100 was counted down over four episodes of the show:
* May 20, 2006
* May 21, 2006
* May 27, 2006
* May 28, 2006and repeated again on the following dates:
* December 16, 2006
* December 17, 2006
* December 23, 2006
* December 24, 2006

Another Top 100 Video Clips special was shown in 2007, which was largely different (but still retained some songs, in different order) from the Top 100 Video Clips of 2006.

There is no word yet on if there will be a top 100 video clip countdown in 2008.

Chart trivia

* Network Ten, the broadcaster of "Video Hits", also broadcasts "Australian Idol". Contestants from the show fared quite well in the Top 100, with eight "Idol"-related songs on the chart. These songs came from four male artists - Shannon Noll, Lee Harding, Anthony Callea and Guy Sebastian.
* Australian artists on the whole were well-represented in the countdown, with eighteen songs by Australians in the Top 100. The twelve Australian artists which made the cut are The Living End, Powderfinger, Shannon Noll, silverchair, The Veronicas, Lee Harding, Guy Sebastian, Anthony Callea, AC/DC, Youth Group, Kylie Minogue and John Farnham. Farnham was the highest-placed Australian entry with "You're The Voice" at number sixteen.
* The countdown coincided with two major competitions. The first offered a chance to see Coldplay live in concert in Sydney with Video Hits host Axle Whitehead. Everybody who voted in the countdown was entered into the draw for this competition, with the winner announced during the countdown on Sunday, May 28, 2006. The second competition offered a chance to see Madonna in concert in London, and could be entered via the "Video Hits" website. The winner was announced on June 5, 2006.
* On some websites, it is falsely claimed that Robbie Williams' "Rock DJ" made the countdown, in place of "Let Me Entertain You". The former video (along with some others) did not make the list, likely because of its explicit content. However, the video for Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" did make the countdown.
