"The Take Over, the Breaks Over" is the third (fourth, including the digitally released "The Carpal Tunnel of Love") single and second track from Fall Out Boy's album "Infinity on High". Its title was taken from Jay-Z's 2001 song "Takeover". The song found its greatest success in Australia, peaking at #17 on the singles chart there. The song won a People's Choice Award for best video.

The song features two guitar solos performed by guest guitarists Ryan Ross (from Panic at the Disco) and Chad Gilbert (from New Found Glory).

Music video

The music video is in grayscale and features the band performing in a dream of Pete Wentz's dog, Hemingway. The video goes through a series of events including cats, mailman, and mad fans. Eventually Hemingway saves the day by telling the fan that everybody changes. The video was filmed in one day when Fall Out Boy was in New York City. "Total Request Live" had had the song listed in the voting page under the misspelled title "The Takeover, The Breakover". The song had reached number-one for the first time on July 11, 2007, and has since been number-one seven times on the countdown. Alex Wolff, the drummer from the Naked Brothers Band played young Pete Wentz in the music video.
