"The Id" is the second studio album by American R&B/soul singer Macy Gray, released in September 2001 (see 2001 in music) by Epic Records, just after the September 11, 2001 attacks, perhaps the main reason for its underperformance in the U.S.; it debuted and peaked at number eleven on the "Billboard" 200, but fell to number twenty-five the following week. Nevertheless, "The Id" (frequently mistyped as "The ID") charted higher than Gray's debut album "On How Life Is" in several European countries, reaching the top position in the United Kingdom and Denmark. It also managed to produce the critically-acclaimed single "Sweet Baby", which features fellow R&B/soul singer Erykah Badu.
